Marc Salmon

Marc Salmon is a Senior Principal and accredited contaminated land auditor in New South Wales (since 2001) and Queensland (since 2006), with over 30 years’ experience in the assessment and management of contaminated land.  Known for his pragmatic approach, Marc has extensive knowledge of both the technical and regulatory requirements associated with the assessment and management of contaminated land, allowing him to deliver audits and consulting projects that are technically robust, regulator-aligned, and responsive to stakeholder needs.  Marc has audited over 100 sites of diverse land uses, including industrial and manufacturing facilities, defence sites, fuel facilities, landfills, railway lands and road corridors, agricultural lands, and former sand mining sites and processing plants.

His professional interests include, amongst others, experimental design through the use of the DQOs planning process, for which he has lectured at UTS’s CSARM[1] short course since 2012, the use of statistics in environmental assessment, and the assessment and management of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs).  Marc has been involved in the development of various technical guidance documents over the years, including the Northern Rivers Contaminated Land Program’s 2021 factsheet on radiation from heavy mineral sand residues (HMSRs) and as the principal author of the proposed revised sampling design guidelines for the EPA[2]
