PCE Assessment and Cleanup
Soil and groundwater remediation of a former commercial laundry site impacted with PCE was undertaken within a period of 18 months. Approximately 800 tonnes of highly impacted soils were excavated and treated on-site through volatilisation and off-gas treatment of the contaminant . Following treatment the soils were able to be reused on site avoiding high disposal costs. The maximum contaminant concentration in groundwater was reduced from 99 mg/L in the source zone area to less than 0.1 mg/L. This was achieved using high performance Enhanced In-Situ Biodegradation technology using safe food grade chemicals. Site boundary groundwater concentrations were reduced from between 5 and 15 mg/L to below laboratory detection limits. As a result further off-site migration of the contaminant has been halted. The site is now able to be divested and redeveloped.
